Every change to the Roman Missal this project has established, the act that ordered each one, and what the text said before and after. The map below is the Missal Line: each station is a point at which the book changed, and the track between two stations is a descent from one to the next.

Where the lines part

A station is normally the act — a constitution, a decree, an instruction, or a documented exemption — and never a book, because two printings of one prayer differ constantly and no act stands behind those differences. The one exception is drawn as a different mark: where a missal survives and no act has been located, the station is printed rather than promulgated, and it is a weaker claim about evidence, not a smaller change. Where the descent runs through an edition this record does not carry, the connector is drawn broken rather than joining the two ends as though nothing sat between them.

Everything here is closed until you open it, and that is what it costs to read. The map fetches the stations and their counts and no text at all; what an act changed arrives when you open that station, the missal as it stood when you ask for it, and one prayer’s history when you follow it. The consequence is worth knowing: your browser’s own find-in-page reaches only what you have opened.
