Ecclesiastical Latin for the 1962 Roman Missal

Return to Curriculums

This self-paced, self-contained curriculum treats the 1962 Roman Missal as a destination within a broad Latin education. It begins with ordinary composed Latin, builds sustained vocabulary and grammatical recall, and progressively reads the Vulgate, the Missal, Cicero, Augustine, Christian prose and poetry, theological and canonical Latin, and other excellent Latin. Pronunciation is outside the present edition.

The common trunk contains 22 substantial packets. Each packet integrates teaching, memory sheets, connected reading, composition, four contrasting practice variants, answers and models, and a qualitative statement of what a reader should reasonably be able to do before continuing. Poetry appears in the trunk and then becomes an optional eight-packet advanced branch. A separate memory workbook permits repeated Latin-to-English, English-to-Latin, morphological, construction, reconstruction, and composition retrieval.

The ChatGPT edition has 37 PDFs totaling 2,068 pages: three companions, 22 core packets, eight advanced-poetry packets, and four cumulative reviews.
